201920 DENVER HIGH SCHOOLS BASKETBALL YEARBOOK | 9
Which teams will be the toughest
competition for your squad this year?
Coach Lommasson has not yet seen a team that
plays in Randolph’s 3A section that he would
classify as “tough,” so his team’s toughest
competition is itself. “We have not been beaten
in the postseason with our full team during my
coaching tenure,” he said.
Ocansey named fellow 5A/4A Denver Prep
League teams Denver East, George Washington,
and Lincoln as some of his team’s toughest
competition. Eaglecrest, Pueblo East, DSST
Byers, and Vanguard will also be tough to beat,
What would you consider a successful
season for your team this year?
Lommasson wants to take a shot at playing
through the season with every player on his
team, since he says the team has only been
beaten when his best players have been kept off
“This year, we want to keep everyone on the
court and see if there is anyone in Colorado that
can beat us with everybody,” he said. “So far,
there hasn’t been.”
Ocansey said Northfi eld will be successful if it
can return to the playoffs.
What’s the best thing about Denver
Lommasson lives for Denver’s pockets of hidden
talent. “My coaching friends from Kentucky
simply do not believe me when I tell them about
"They think there is no way my point guard set
the triple-double record last year. They think
there is no way my point guard this year is the
size of a 5A point guard and dunking on people,”
he said. “I’m just having a blast coaching out
Ocansey has a similar love for the skill of the
game, saying “the athleticism, the physical play,
the crowds” make Denver basketball what it is.
